In 1987, Peterkin
pursued his Law Enforcement Career by attending the North Carolina
Justice Academy in Salemburg, North Carolina, where he received
his Basic Law Enforcement Certification. Upon receiving his certification,
he has been employed with the Fayetteville Police Department for
a 14-year career. He is currently still serving as an Investigator
with the Fayetteville Police Department.
From December
18, 1998 to January 19, 2000, Peterkin served as the Chief
Deputy
of the Hoke County Sheriff's Office, holding the rank of Major. He
has served as Sherriff of Hoke County since election in 2002
and re-election in 2006.
Peterkin received
his Bachelor of Science Degree in May of 1999, from Liberty University,
in Lynchburg, Virginia, concentrating in Government and Business
and is presently seeking his Masters Degree.
He has received
his Advanced Law Enforcement Certification from the Criminal Justice
Education and Training Standards Commission (for Police) and his
Advanced Certification from the North Carolina Sheriff's Education
and Training Standards Commission (for Deputy Sheriffs). Both
certifications are the highest recognition that can be achieved
in Law Enforcement.
His professional
education consists of Preliminary Investigation, Basic Juvenile
Investigator Training, Police Law Institute, Criminal Intelligence,
Case Management, Investigating Child Abuse and Neglect I & II,
Investigating Child Sexual Abuse and Interview and Interrogation.
Peterkin
has benn a certified instructor teaching Law Enforcement Officers
at the Fayetteville Technical Community College and at the
North
Carolina Justice Academy.
During his
16 years with the Fayetteville Police Department, he has been
a Patrol Officer, School Resource Officer, Community Resource
Officer, and Investigator.
Peterkin is
a decorated officer and has received the following awards: Decoration
and Highest Performance, Humanitarian Award, Mentor Award, Merit
Award (twice), Individual Commendation Award (twice), Service
Award, Department Unit Commendation and Testimonial Plaque of
Excellence.
He is and
has been a member of the Freedom A.M.E. Zion Chapel, all his life,
where the Pastor is the Rev. Ray P. Owens.
Mr. Peterkin's
objective is to seek a challenging and rewarding career where
leadership skills and prior law enforcement experience may be
effectively utilized to benefit the public.
